What is Nature-Based Therapy?
Nature-based occupational therapy takes place outdoors and combines the therapeutic benefits of the natural environment with evidence-based OT practices to support children’s physical, cognitive, and social development. Outdoor settings naturally encourage movement, helping to build strength, balance, endurance, postural control, bilateral coordination, and visual motor skills.
The sensory-rich experiences found in nature—such as diverse sights, sounds, textures, and motions—promote both sensory and emotional regulation. Nature also offers opportunities for motor planning, problem-solving, and developing resilience, as children learn to navigate challenges and return to a regulated state.
Being outdoors isn’t just good for development—it’s also fun, engaging, and full of endless opportunities to grow and explore.

Comprehensive Evaluations
Nature-Based OT evaluations assess your child's sensory, motor, cognitive, and social development to uncover their unique strengths and challenges. Evaluations take place in our clinic and typically consist of a thorough caregiver interview to understand your concerns and goals, as well as observations and interactions with the child to see their skills in action. Depending on the reason for the evaluation, a standardized assessment may be administered to understand how your child's skills are developing relative to same-age children. Together, we will determine whether nature-based therapy, clinic-based therapy, or a combination of both will be best for your child.
Our Therapy Approach
Occupational therapists at Mighty Kids Therapy make sessions playful, engaging, and effective! We use the endless opportunities and resources provided in nature along with a therapeutic play model to make sure that your child reaches their goals, all while building connections and having fun. We also encourage caregivers to be involved in the therapy process to help support new skills. Parents, family members, and guardians are always welcome to join in on sessions to see what we are doing and learn helpful strategies to implement at home with confidence.
