Anna Chmiel, MOT, OTR

Owner, Occupational Therapist

  • Anna received her Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX in 2008. She later received her Masters of Occupational Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, TX in 2011.
  • Anna has clinical experience with children of all ages and abilities including developmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorders, sensory processing dysfunctions, executive functioning skills, Dysgraphia, neurological impairments, and motor coordination disorders. She is passionate about providing a whole-child approach to care and specializes in performing home, school, and community consultations, to increase the child’s success across all environments.
  • Out of the clinic, Anna enjoys traveling the world and being outdoors with her family and two dogs. She can usually be found chasing after her two year old at one of the many parks in town!

Amy Narkiewicz, COTA

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

  • Amy earned an Associate’s degree for Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant from North Central Texas College in Corinth, TX in 2001.
  • She started her career working with the geriatric population before finding her passion for pediatrics and has been continuously practicing in the pediatric outpatient setting since 2008. She joined the Mighty Kids team when we opened in 2014. Amy is a certified Interactive Metronome provider, a certified SOS Feeding approach provider, and trained with the Smart but Scattered approach. She has received specialized training in behavior management, sensory processing disorders, neurological impairments, and utilizes the Handwriting without Tears approach.
  • Amy has experience with numerous diagnoses such as; dysgraphia, dyspraxia, motor coordination disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, and sensory processing disorders among others.
  • In her free time Amy enjoys traveling and exploring different cultures. She loves watching soccer and roots for her favorite team at every World Cup! But spending time with her family and furry friend Cassius at the lake makes her day, any day.

Brittany Balzano, MOT, OTR

Occupational Therapist

  • Brittany received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Science from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO in 2017. She continued at Saint Louis University to receive her Masters of Occupational Therapy in 2018.
  • Brittany completed her level II fieldwork at Mighty Kids in the summer of 2018 and joined the team in September 2018. She has experience with children of all ages and abilities completing fieldwork and internships in preschools, daycare centers, elementary schools, community centers, summer camps, and inpatient and outpatient facilities. Brittany is passionate about evidence-based practice and staying up-to-date on research. Coming from a large family, she emphasizes the family’s role in child development and how as a team we can help set and work towards accomplishing the child and family’s “mighty” goals to aid in success across the child’s environments.
  • Brittany is from Chicago, IL and new to the Austin area. Out of the office she loves spending time with her fiancé and husky-mix pup, volunteering, exploring new foods, and traveling.

Jennifer Coyle, MSPT

Physical Therapist

  • Jennifer received her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from Simmons College in Boston, MA in 2001. She has been a member of the Mighty Kids team since we opened in 2014.
  • Since her graduation, Jennifer has continuously practiced in the pediatric outpatient setting. She is a certified Interactive Metronome (IM) provider and trained in Kinesio-taping.
  • Jennifer has clinical expertise working with children of varied diagnoses including, Cerebral Palsy, neurological impairments, head injury/TBI, stroke, Autism, Down syndrome, Torticollis, orthopedic diagnoses, genetic disorders, and children with complex medically fragile conditions.
  • Out of the office, Jenn and her husband enjoy attending their daughter’s gymnastics competitions to CHEER her on! When not at a competition, or at home with her family dog Sadie, she loves to volunteer at her local church and for her favorite charity the UMDF.

Carly Paben, BA, PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant, Aquatic Therapist

  • Carly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from Concordia University in Austin, TX in 2005. She went on to receive an Associate’s degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from Austin’s Community College in Austin, TX in 2009. Carly has been a member of the Mighty Kids team since we opened in 2014.
  • Carly has worked with children ranging from infants to 18 years of age with a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to neurological, orthopedic, and sensory-related diagnoses. She is a certified Interactive Metronome provider and has received specialized training in pediatric aquatic therapy.
  • Carly is a true Texan, born, raised and proud of it! She enjoys crafting, watching movies, enjoying the great Mexican food Texas has to offer and above all spending time with family and friends.

Ashlee Nealis, M.Ed., CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

  • Ashlee received her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology with honors from the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH in 2000.
  • Upon graduating, Ashlee practiced in Virginia and Ohio in the school setting. She joined the Mighty Kids team in 2016.
  • Ashlee has additional training using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). She has experience with preschool students, school-aged students, individuals with feeding disorders and adults who had strokes and traumatic brain injury. She has extensive experience working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum and has worked closely with other disciplines to meet the individual needs of those on the spectrum. Ashlee incorporates a variety of communication techniques to ensure that each individual can communicate effectively with others, and is passionate about targeting communication in the naturally occurring environment such as play with young children.
  • Texas has been home to Ashlee, her husband, daughter, and twin boys since 2009. Ashlee and her family enjoy exploring the great outdoors with activities such as hiking, bike riding, and splish-splashing the hot summer days away with a good swim.

Samantha Moses, MA, CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

  • Samantha received her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Texas at Austin. She continued at UT Austin and completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2017.
  • Samantha has worked at Mighty Kids Therapy since completing her degree in 2017. She has experience with preschool and school age children with speech and language difficulties, including articulation and phonology disorders, fluency disorders, expressive and receptive language difficulties, and social/pragmatic communication deficits. Samantha enjoys working with special populations, including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome.
  • Samantha is from Boston, but considers herself an Austinite after 7 years in the city. She loves exploring the town, from relaxing on the lake to gazing art exhibits downtown. Oh, and we dare you to find her without a Starbucks in her hand!

 

Kristen Bradshaw, MA, CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

  • Kristen graduated from Baylor University in 2009 with a degree in Language and Linguistics before completing her Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011. She joined the Mighty Kids team in 2016.
  • Kristen began her career working in public schools serving preschool, elementary, and high school students with a variety of challenges, from mild to severe and everything in between. She has experience with students with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, and a variety of other syndromes and diagnoses. Within this population, Kristen addressed disorders of articulation and phonology, fluency, receptive and expressive language, functional communication, and social skills and communication. Beyond these specific needs, as part of an interdisciplinary team, she helped support student success by creating visuals, writing social stories, and contributing to behavior plans.
  • Kristen has specialized training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), the PODD (Pragmatically Organized Dynamic Display) communication system, Social Thinking curricula from Michelle Garcia Winner, and fluency treatment.
  • Outside of the clinic, Kristen enjoys arts and crafts of all kinds, goes all-out dressing up for themed events, and loves to work the Sunday crossword puzzle!

Deborah Wells, MA, CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist

  • Deborah received an Associate’s degree in Child Development, a Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorder, and a Master’s degree in Speech Language Hearing Science, the latter two from San Diego State University in San Diego, CA in 2006. She joined the Mighty Kids team in 2014.
  • Deborah has specialized training in Picture Exchange Communications System (PECS), Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC), feeding disorders, Apraxia, and phonological disorders. Her treatment approach techniques include the use of visuals, PECS, In Harmony, Kaufman, Talk Tools, and AAC.
  • Deborah’s clinical experience includes evaluating and implementing therapy for clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delays, oral motor/feeding deficits, articulation disorders, phonological disorders, Apraxia, fluency disorders, Down Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, and Cerebral Palsy. Since graduating, Deborah has worked for pediatrics in a variety of settings including public and private schools, clinics, and in the patient’s home.
  • Out of therapy, Deborah enjoys going out to the lake with her family, water skiing or just taking the scenery in while strolling along the banks. When not at the lake you can find Deborah crocheting or sewing the day away.

 

Nicole Quick, MA, SLP-CFY

Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow

  • Nicole received her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Texas at Austin. She continued at UT Austin and completed her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2018.
  • Nicole has worked at Mighty Kids Therapy since completing her degree in 2018. She has experience with preschool and school age children with speech and language difficulties, including articulation and phonology disorders, fluency disorders, expressive and receptive language difficulties, and social/pragmatic communication deficits. Nicole has experience with both individual and group based therapy.
  • Nicole has lived in Austin for 18 years and loves being close to her family. She enjoys game nights with friends and volunteering within the children’s ministry at her local church. She is excited to get married this Fall, and continue exploring her favorite city.

Sandra Juarez

Admissions Coordinator

  • Sandra was born and raised in Round Rock, Texas. She graduated from Round Rock High School in 2008.
  • As our admissions coordinator, Sandra coordinates care for all of our patients and ensures everything is running smoothly at Mighty Kids.
  • Out of the office, Sandra enjoys spending time with her family. She has three kiddos who keep her busy, and she loves it! When not spending time on the soccer field, they enjoy going to the pool, park, movies, Adventure Parks, or vacationing far away from home. They love to see the world and have a goal of visiting all 50 states in the US as well as many other countries!
